Gender Wage Gap

Have you ever heard of such a thing where men make more money than women over their lifetime? This is not an opinion it is a proven fact. People may believe this is true due to women picking lower paid jobs, part time jobs, or they have more care-giving responsibilities, none of these are the case. In the United States, the average female’s unadjusted salary has been cited as 78 percent of those of the average male (Wikipedia). Many people believe that men can do any job better than women can whether it is cooking, hard labor, or any kind of job from hair salon to a dentist. If one man and one woman go out for the same job a man is more likely to get the job.  Even when men and women are working side-by-side performing similar tasks, however the pay gap does not fully disappear. (Counsel of economic advisers issue brief 2015).
Men believe that women should stay home all day, cook, clean, and take care of the children. One fact is that 70.8 percent of mothers are in the labor force which means they have a paying job or are looking for one. I disagree that women should stay home all day, because if they are a single mother than in order to make money for them and their child they need to get a job whether it is a part time job or a full time. Another interesting fact is that of 2006 it is 49 percent preferable and 32 percent not preferable that women work while raising children. The third and final fact is that a poll that was done back in 2005 is that 79 percent of working mothers said they would work even if they didn’t have too (ABC news). I believe one of the many reasons behind this is because women want to prove men and all the statics wrong and show that they can stay home and hold down a job at the same time. For example my mom, Margo works from four in the morning to five at night everyday besides weekends and she still manages to clean the house, cook dinner, and take care of my sister and I. women aren’t the only ones that can stay at home and do all of this, men can too. My dad, Blain takes over cleaning the house, cooking meals, and taking care of my sister and I when my mom has to work late or is out of town.

All in all I believe that women should be paid the same amount of money as men because it is only fair if women are doing the same job as men that they get paid the same amount as they do. Also I believe that women shouldn’t t be held to staying home all day because they too are capable of working and holding down a job just as much as men.

Having Money V.S Not Having Money

Imagine having to wear the same shirt, pants, shoes, and jacket every day. If you are a teenager in middle school or high school, the clothes you wear, the type of phone you have, and how big your house is impacts how you are treated. Today in school if you are a girl and you have Ugg boots, rock rival jeans, miss me jeans, Victoria secret clothing, brand name clothing, IPhone, and live in a nice house, you are treated differently than a girl that doesn’t have any of that; such as just tennis shoes, regular cheap jeans, and plain non brand name clothing, doesn’t have a smart phone, and lives in a small house. Guys in school that wear name brand clothing; vans, Jordan’s, Nikes, and expensive jeans they are as well treated differently than a guy that doesn’t have all of that.
In our world today people with a lot of money and high socioeconomic status (SES) are treated better than people with not a lot of money and low (SES). I do not agree on treating people differently based on their (SES) because at the end of the day we are all humans and deserve to be treated equally. When people with low (SES) are treated with no respect, and receive dirty looks it tends to bring them down and they start too second guess themselves. For example, people with low (SES)  and that have been treated poorly their whole life it could affect who they choose to marry, since they don’t have a lot of money they would choose to marry someone that does have money so they wouldn’t have to live the rest of their life with a low (SES). They may choose to marry that person whether or not they have any feelings for them.
Another example on how (SES) affects ones identity is people that have low (SES) don’t believe that they will go far in life. They don’t think that they will go far in life because they believe that they don’t have as many opportunities as someone with high (SES). This however is not true because everyone has the same opportunities, people with lower (SES) just have to work harder than others with high (SES).
Finally people with low (SES) think that they also have poor health. They could be the healthiest person in the world but to them they think that they are worthless and dirty. I believe that everyone should be treated the same and we should not treat people differently depending on their socioeconomic status.

Life Of a Refugee

Imagine that you moved from your home country to a new one with nothing but one small bag, can you imagine leaving your house, belongings, friends, family, and life there in your home country. Refugees go through a lot, it starts with a very long process to just get background checks and an interview. That alone takes 18 months, so when everything is reviewed and they are interviewed 6 more months has passed. All in all for a refugee to get into the United States it takes up to 24 months, that is two whole years! U.S. citizens and Americans don’t want refugees here because they believe that they will take Americans jobs. In reality refugees do the jobs that Americans don’t want to do.
Many people don’t understand that refugees can’t walk into the U.S. and become a teacher, lawyer, firefighter, police officer, doctor, or even work at places such as McDonalds. The reason they can’t get jobs like there is because they don’t know how to interact with others or some don’t have good enough English for customer service. Even though many refugees have a degree in their country, when they get to America they have to start all over at the high school level. This is very discouraging for most refugees so therefore they don’t do it and they just take the jobs that we Americans don’t want to do.
Another thing Americans fear about refugees is that we will let them in and some could be terrorists. After United Nations high commission for refugees (UNCHR) refers refugees to the United States, the U.S. gathers information on the refugee. Once they have got the information they do an interview, medical evaluation, and a security screening process to show us if the refugee is or could be a threat to the united states or not. When the refugee steps off the plane that landed in the United States they receive help from a resettlement agency. This agency helps them with language, housing, learning, and medical attention. When the refugees get here they have nothing so they are helped, but they only receive help for 3 short months. In those three months they receive medical help, schooling for the kids and teenagers, housing, and language so they can get a job to earn money so that when their three months is up they can go out and live on their own.
The main argument today about refugees is if we should let more refugees in or not. Many people believe that we should and many believe that we shouldn’t let any more in. the United States has only let in 2,200 refugees, I believe that we should let more refugees in. However I am not saying that we should just let them in because they ask to be, we should let them in if they apply, and go through everything else that the other 2,200 refugees have gone through to be let in.
